I wish the original cover to Home To Harlem was still used simply because you get a better sense of what you're getting into before you crack open the book. From this cover, you can tell it will entail some violence, singing, vixens etc. I like to have an idea about a text before I induldge into it. One thing I was surprised about was Rose's willingness to take care of Jake whether he had a job, and wanted to be his sugar momma. It seems unlikely that at the time a woman, especially African American would even speak to a man unless he's hardworking and takes care of his business. Was that a way that she knew she couldn't have & keep a man solely on love , or was it just something she felt she owned and had control over?
