The 1911 Triangle Factory Fire

 " NEAR CLOSING TIME ON MARCH 25, 1911, a fire broke out at the Triangle Waist Factory in New York City. Within 18 minutes, 146 people were dead as a result of the fire."

  1. I actually learned about this when I was a senior in high school and how after the fire workplaces made their rules more strict on employee safety. I think I remember hearing that employees were locked inside the building to keep them working but ultimately that was why they couldn't get out of the fire. I remember watching a documentary and a witness talked about the horrible sound of bodies hitting the ground trying to escape the fire by jumping from the building. Actually the documentary reminded me a lot of the people who were in New York for 9/11 because they also talked about people who were jumping from the building trying to get out. I think it's sad that we have to wait for something horrible and tragic to happen before we're willing to make any changes as this has been the case in many historical events.
