Angel Island poems

The differences in the reactions of the immigrants on Angel Island is interesting. On the one hand there are a few poems where the immigrants that wrote them seem completely defeated. One of the poems ends by the immigrant writing "I bow my head in reflection but there is/ nothing I can do." On the other hand the other poems show the detainees hoping to seek revenge when they are released. These reactions are interesting because Angel Island had varying effects on the immigrants. Some of the immigrants were completely demoralized by their mistreatment on Angel Island. While some of the other immigrants showed great passion and motivation to succeed after their mistreatment.

How do you believe that you would react in the same situation?
