Daniel La France

Here's a link to what could be Daniel La France's picture, accompanying his story "The Life Story of an Indian" in Holt's collection. His positive experience in the federal boarding school is atypical--the majority of native students did not fare well.

Below is a link to the most notorious federally-sponsored off-reservation boarding school in the country, Carlisle Indian Industrial School in Carlisle, PA, opened in 1879 and closed in 1914.
