Boyfriend

In this chapter we sort of get an interpretation of a story from someone else. There are no names except of Loretta. He only says "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" even when he has a date with her we still do not get her name.

Why do you think this is? Is it on purpose as a literary device or he just didn't want to say her name?

  1. By not giving these characters names, he makes it so they can be anybody. It is an easy way of generalizing shitty relationships. It also disconnects them from himself. He is only a fly on the ceiling in their relationship and can only hear clips of their life. In reality, he has no idea who these people are except they fight, she wear nice clothes and blow jobs happen in the shower a lot.

  2. I think that these people just take on the role of "boyfriend" and "girlfriend," regardless of who they are with or dating. They don't seem to know any way to be single, they find their identity in others.
